This was a nice story at a price point that made it even better.The kingdom is caught between two religions,The One God and the old pagen ways.The King has switched his faith to The one God and his most trusted adviser will not.At the start of the novel the kings wife is in child birth while he and his friends are in the joining room waiting for the news.Twins. One child bares a mark and is the third son while the second will be his only daughter.Tooles (the adviser) is concerned over the mark while the King seems to think it means nothing.But having two older sons he is aware of the problems this third son poses.To keep peace in the kingdom and to save his third son a life of misery he sends him to be raised by monks.At about this point the story of The Third Prince starts.This was Mr. Neighbors first book and at times it shows.Having read all of his newest novels I was compelled to go back to his early work.I feel that Mr. Neighbors has the talent to be the biggest name in fantasy for years to come.This story was fine, it had good plot twists,the drama of the action scenes was decent but the flow of the story was off.It jumped from action scene to action scene with out the needed relationship building to sustain the story.I was not a fan of the ending either.It could have used a little more twist on the villain.Over all a nice story for a slow nite on T.V..IF you have some how over looked his work this is a good one to get started with.Product details

mmm... not sure about this one and the sequel. The story progresses too quickly for my liking. I am a great epic fantasy reader and like my stories to take up to 10 books to tell the tale. I like to become submerged in the world where the story is happening and the characters. But all in all it was an entertaining read. Now that I have my kindle and books are so much more accessible to me I am reading more than ever before [well almost] and as most of my favourite authors are getting old or passing on I am on the hunt for more great fantasy writers.
Once again author Toby Neighbors brings a small everyday type person. In this case an orphan raised in a monastery to greatness. Mr.Neighbors is very good at thrusting great responsibility on to the backs of his characters and allowing you to watch as they grow into themselves.
I decent story but not something I would come back to. The characters in it a somewhat shallow and the plot is a little one dimensional.
Still an amusing introductory work from an author that I expect will write some amazing material once he hits his stride.
Good short story, maybe too short but a good read. I would think there is more in the works but I see no sign of things to come. The whole TOBY NEIGHBORS series that includes Five Kingdoms, Lorik, and the Third Prince series are good reads with loose ends.
Old plot but very well done. Interesting characters in an outstanding sword and sorcery fantasy adventure. It is good start to what could be a fantastic series.
This was an enjoyable book. It tells the story of a monk living a quiet life at the monastery who is told he now has to drop his idyllic life and become the king. You can imagine his perplexity and lack of interest in leading a royal life. I liked the book enough to read Book 2, "Royal Destiny," and look forward to Book 3. This is light reading with a good story. I feel the author can benefit from the feedback about too many battles and not enough character development for those who like more detail regarding the characters and their lives. For me, the book was fine as it is except for better editing, which it seems like has happened now. Thanks everyone, and have a fine day!
Third Prince is an exciting tale of a young man's journey from his home at the monastery to Royal City where he's to become the new king. The reader is propelled rapidly through encounters with both friends and enemies until suddenly the end of the book arrives. To finish the story (or at least tie up the biggest loose ends), you have to buy the next book, Royal Destiny. The plot employs many of the standard fantasy cliches to good effect - loyal companions, super swordsmen, amazing archers, evil witch doctors, and wise wizards - and I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent reading it.
That said, I felt like I was reading through the novel's draft version prior to editing for for grammar and punctuation. The frequent misuse of homonyms and apostrophes detracted from my enjoyment of the story, though it did add some entirely unintended humor. With a good edit, this potentially epic tale would easily deserve 4 stars. As is, it's "lite" fantasy.
