The following work is designed for the use of the higher classes of Schools and the junior students in the Universities. Although the book is complete in itself, in the sense that it begins at the beginning, it is expected that students who use it will have previously read some more elementary work on Algebra the simpler parts of the subject are therefore treated somewhat briefly.

I have not read this book, but I have read about it, in an article by an outstanding high school math teacher, Steve Sigur formerly of the Paideia school in Atlanta, entitled "The decline of American mathematics textbooks". This book seems to be the one from the 1890's that was held up by Steve as an example of how substantive American math books used to be 100 years ago, before they became politically correct, soft, and useless for practice in thinking, as he said are e.g. the books by Dolciani et al used most today.

Since they require the student to do only what he/she has been programmed to do, no thinking required, Steve called the books of today essentially "without content". I.e. they teach only rules, not thinking, so once the rules are forgotten, "as they always are", nothing remains from the experience.

Steve gave an example fraction problem from this book that he conjectured one could possibly do in one's head after reading this book, but which would be so hard as to be essentially undoable by even todays teachers. (I could not readily do it, without using advanced knowledge, and I am a college professor of mathematics!)

The table of content reveals that this book is laid out somewhat on the lines of Euler's great book in that it treats infinite series, exponentials and logs, before calculus, which seems also to be included, as well as probability. This book looks very interesting indeed, and could be recommended to the brightest high school students of today over the pablum they are currently fed.
